Would you hire someone to help save you money for free?
I know it sounds too good to be true, but it actually isn’t. Companies like BillFixers take a commission on the amount of money they help you save.
I’ve personally used BillFixers to help me save money on my cell phone bill, and I was pleased with the results. If you’re not the best negotiator or you value your time, then hiring one of these companies might be a smart move.
Hiring Third Party Companies
To get started you’ll need to provide some basic information. The sign-up process can vary with different companies, but BillFixer’s process is fairly simple.
You’ll begin by first entering basic information (name, email, phone number), and finally uploading your bills. You’ll also have to agree to their terms of service. After you send your information you’ll wait a few weeks and wait for the good news.
Keep in mind that you may not always save money, but when you do be prepared to split the mullah 50/50.
For example, let’s say BillFixers was able to save you $100 a year on your cell phone bill, then you’ll technically be saving $50 a year. It may seem like a small amount, but when you factor the time it took you to save this money it becomes attractive.
A concern you might come across is how well your information is protected. Luckily, you don’t have to provide personal such as a social security number, or account pins to BillFixer. Most of the information they require is already included in your bill statement.
In some instances, you might be required to authorize BillFixers to negotiate on your behalf over the phone. However, this can be done in less than 2 minutes. This gives you the assurance that you’re not being impersonated over the phone.
I stumbled upon BillFixers after learning about virtual assistants. Virtual assistants can a great asset for a business, but they can also help you with personal tasks. Through Googling my way on the web to find such a company or person I stumbled upon BillFixers.
After doing extensive research on the web to make sure they were legit I decide to give them a try with my phone bill. I quickly downloaded my previous month’s bill statement and uploaded it on BillFixer’s website.
I immediately received an acknowledgment that my bill had been received and that I would be contacted within a few weeks. I didn’t think much of it because I felt that BillFixers wouldn’t be able to save me any money.
After a few weeks, I received an email stating that I had saved $90 a year on my cell phone bill! I didn’t believe it until a few weeks had passed and I was able to view my most current bill statement. I also received an email from BillFixers stating that I would them $5 a month or $45 if I’d decided to pay the balance in full.
Regardless of which option I chose I would be saving money. They best part was that I invested little of my time with the negotiation process.
Could I have done this myself? Probably, but that would have meant spending anywhere from 30 – 60 minutes of my time on the phone.
Since I’ve used BillFixers I’ve only entrusted them with my cable and cell phone bill. I think Bill Fixers is a great option for people looking to save anywhere from $5-$20 a month. Regardless of how much you save I think it’s worth noting that you invest little of your time and effort.
I will point out that not everything is great about BillFixer’s service.
Shortly after BillFixers saved me money on my cable bill I noticed that one of my TVs wasn’t working. After spending over an hour on the phone, confused, I discovered from my cable company that BillFixers had changed my cable package.
BillFixers had selected 1 TV less for my house due to the promotion I was enrolled in. However, because the wrong promo code was entered one of my TVs ended up with no service. I found this out late at night and I became frustrated explaining my situation to the customer specialist.
BillFixers provides you with basic details on what they’ve done to save you money. Because of this, you may find yourself confused in a situation similar to mine. I personally wouldn’t go crazy and hand over every bill you have to BillFixers.
Start off with a small bill and see how it goes for a few months. Always avoid giving out unnecessary information, and monitor the money you’re actually saving.
If possible, pay the balance in full only for services you know you’ll keep for more than a year. I personally find it tedious adding more monthly expenses to my budget. This means more expenses to keep track of.
Time is the best asset we have, so if you can save 30 minutes on the phone and save money why not?
Whether you decide to use BillFixers or not you should always be on the lookout for different ways to save money on your monthly expenses. It may mean downgrading on services you don’t need or being a smooth negotiator over the phone.
Regardless, of which option you choose just know you have the power to negotiate the best price for your services.
Good luck, and I hope that you can save a few dollars the upcoming months!
